Some diets may lead to undesirable results
The researchers published a study indicating that the rice flour, which is used in some diets as an alternative to wheat, may contain higher concentrations of arsenic, mercury, and this study published in the journal Epidemiology.
Usually advised to diet gluten-free for patients who suffer from digestive disorders caused by abnormal immune response to the protein gluten disease (found in wheat, rye and barley).
In recent years, the diet of gluten-free spread dramatically, even among people who do not suffer from celiac disease. Where it is believed that the exclusion of gluten from the diet reduces inflammation in the body, even though the scientific evidence for this hypothesis does not bear this out.
According to one of the statistics for the year 2016, every fifth person in the United States reduces or eliminates gluten in everyday meals, as the number of Americans who follow a diet free of gluten from 2009 until 2014, has more than tripled.
At the same time, the products are used in this type of diets often contain rice flour, which is used as a substitute for wheat. It is known for his ability to assemble some heavy metals such as arsenic and mercury from soil, water, fertilizer and rice.
That's why I decided a group of researchers to test the effect of the consumption of a high proportion of rice on health.
To do so, the analysis of blood and urine of 73 people between the ages of 6 and 80 years, who follow a diet free of gluten. They found that the concentration of arsenic in the urine have almost twice as high than the normal level, but the level of mercury in the blood by 70% and adding him among those who do not follow the same system.
It is known that heavy metals lead to the development of cancer, heart disease, blood vessels and nerve diseases.
He said one of the researchers: "If our findings suggest that a diet free of gluten could have unknown consequences."
He added: "To assess the potential for this type of diets negative effects, we need more research."
Recall that earlier, told scientists from the Medical Center at Columbia University that a gluten-free diet may cause diabetes.
Each of the above experts advise you to consult specialist doctors, before you follow a specific diet, may lead to diseases and unexpected results.
